I have many problems with people like Pat Robertson, as it honestly seems to be that they are just after peoples money. Getting rich of lies, I believe is called fraud. So what are these so called lies that I am talking about. Well lets start with the big one, God is not real.... if you are making money of the fact that god exists you are a fraud. Lie number 2? Predictions, Pat is big on predictions, and guess what just like Nostradamus, and Harold Shipman and the ancient Mayans......... He is getting them wrong! How abut attributing, natural disasters to god? Earthquakes, Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Snow storms etc, are caused by well known natural phenomena. When these things happen, they can cause great devastation.... but it is not God punishing people. This is a lie Pat!

So do you think gender bias is a good thing? Well apparently if you are a muslim this is an accepted part of your culture. You have heard the burqa debate, and the forced weddings etc. But do you know this.

I was told very candidly one day by a muslim before he was going to observe the last week of ramadan in prayer at the mosque, that “no women are allowed to be there for the week, only men.” So hang on, only men are allowed to observe this time in retreat at the mosque with their fellow devotees?

Does this not strike anyone as odd, apparently not. I was told “you wont understand, you don't hold the same beliefs.” which is true but I also live in the 21st century, where women are equal to men. How can any religion which does not allow all its believers to attend there most holy time of year be considered just? Where is the equality that exists, when they die do women go to another heaven different to men or dare I say it lesser?

This behaviour is sexist and disgusting. How can you treat someone you love, i.e. your wife, in this way? However, if you ever ask the question, “Is islam chauvinistic?” The answer will be “NO”, even when clearly it is “YES”.

Bradlee Dean?

I have a confession to make, I love crazy people, they are just so much more intersting and entertaining. The problem with crazy people however, is that they are dangerous. If not only to themselves, then to others....... which brings me to Bradlee Dean.

This man, is a lunatic! And highly entertaining!

The problem however is blataltly kicking you in the head when you listen to Bradlee Dean. He is clearly in favor of having a society run with a moral set of values, and those values are what he determines from the bible. This will lead to an unjust and infair society and take us back to the dark ages, where women and gays, maybe even other ethnicities are considered unequal. He is a perfect example of why religion and politics should never ever mix!

Adittionally, his anlysis of Ruby Ridge, Waco and Oklahoma City are sometimes accurate, and mostly way of the mark. It is a conspiracy theory like he says, he just messes it up by not saying, he is the conspiracy theorist!

How about his analysis of Alfred Kinsey's work. Ok, so he gets a lot right, but then dismissis all of Kinsey's work due to irregularities in Kinsey's work. This is true that there are many irregularities in Kinsey's work, however he failed to mention that “It was Paul Gebhard, in the 1970s, who removed all suspect data, and recalculated Kinsey's findings. Rapture, End of the world?

So the much predicted end of the world didn't happen. No suprise there, I wish it had though as it would have saved me from doing all this work over the weekend. All joking aside, lets look at a list of he so called raptures/armageddons that were meant to happen.

Why do they waste there time? Jehovah's Wintnesses that is?

The other day, I had the normal Jehovah's witness converstaion. You know the one where you are busy, they are not and you can't get them to leave you alone polietely. Well they gave the normal old yarn about, why they are the only way to go to heaven. And you need to follow there tenants,hell maybe you will even be able to see them refuse their child a blood transplant potentially leading to the poor kids death, if some authorities don't step in.

Losing my Religion III

Agnosticism? What is it really.

According to the Oxford dictionary it is “a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God” http://oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/agnostic

According to encylclopedia Britannica it is “strictly speaking, the doctrine that humans cannot know of the existence of anything beyond the phenomena of their experience. My definiton however comes more from my personal experience. And it goes soemthing like this: agnosticism is for atheists that are not yet ready to be out of the closet and say “I don't believe in fairy tales anymore.”

People may disagree and say but how can you be certain there is no god, this is the agnostic position. I say bollocks to that, if I presented enough evidence to you on any theory (i.e. the second law of thermodynamics) you would believe it. Even if there is a 0.0000000000000000..........1 % chance that it could be wrong, you would believe it as this is the way a rational mind works. So much evidence eventually speaks for itself, especially when there is no counter evidence. And when I say no counter evidence I challenge you to find any verified evidence, there is none.

This is why I am an atheist, there is no evidence for any god!

I will believe in a god, when the proof has been published in either Science (http://www.sciencemag.org/) orNature (http://www.nature.com/) and has stood the test of disproof for a least 2 years. Until then, I will not believe in fairytales and I have certainty that this is the way it will remian.

Losing my religion II

So after my deconversion from Christianity http://iamchristianiamanatheist.blogspot.kr/2012/11/losing-my-religion-i.html And lets be real here, all Christian denominations (all 40000+ of them http://www.adherents.com/ ) are the same. They have the same bible, believe the same stuff, feed the same fears,.... the only difference I have seen is that the intolerance varies from group to group.

Here is my analysis, after looking into a few religions. I came up basically with the following about the three other major religionsbesides Christianity . Needless to say after reading the major texts of these various religions, the only thing I was learning was that its easier to spot fairytales once you have read a few.

1) Islam

This is the same as Christianity, except they are way more hardcore about the stoning and infidel thing. So, the Koran should I say as it was written later is basically a copy and paste version of the bible, then edited for style and some extra added stories of why its better. Think about it this way, if say John handed in the Bible as a thesis and Bob handed in the Koran the following year as his thesis. Then Bob would be had for plagarism.

All in all the Koran is an entertaining read like the Bible, if you like to read about lunatic baby killers and there maniac invisible friend. Its like a sequel to a very bad movie.

2) Hinduism

There is a god or deity or whatever for everything and anything, and somehow they all tie in and then never get along together. Essentially all you need to know about hinduism is that there is a class system and you have to wonder about any religion where elitism exists http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caste_system_in_India.

So if you are looking for a great read, the Bhagavad Gita or any of the other hindu texts can be great fun.

3) Buddhism

The only thing I can say is, is this really a religion? It seems to me in a way to be a religion of escapism from reality, but not really a crazy lets burn abortionists religion. So after a lot of reading and trying to rationalise a belief in a divine entity I came to the following conclusion. I was done with major religion.

I like to think of myself as a rational being, and so I have this idea in my head that due to this rationality I would have left any religion be it Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, or any of the other thousands of liked minded sects/cults/mainstream religions.

So the first thing that happened in my deconversion (interesting use of the word supplied by Rich Lyons  http://livingafterfaith.blogspot.kr) was that I actually took the holy Bible/book and read it. It was entertaining to read from cover to cover, I have to admit this. However the fun did not come from righteousness and moral values, it came from all the crazy junk that exists in there like.

So an actual reading of the bible is what put me in a position where I said to myself, “This can't be real, its like some fiction like Catcher in the Rye or Catch 22!” However I was not ready to give it all up yet, the existence of a god that is, at that point I was at least done with my childhood slave master a.k.a. The good Christian church in which I grew up.

So the next step was to find out who is the true god, as clearly the god of the bible was a very sick, megalomaniac, homophobic, totalitarian, egotistical tyrant.

What is the point of this blog?

It has taken me a long time to get to a point where I have felt that a blog discussing “God”, in whatever form, is something I need to do on a personal level. My hope is that the discussions that will hopefully arise out of these posts will be insightful and illuminating.

I want people who read this blog to get to see what I got to see. My journey from a believer in a god to where I am now, a rational atheist, has been arduous and way to long. This, if I have to put a word to it, Redemption from the slavery that religion is what has made me come to this point in my life. Where my goal is to make you think.

I want you to question everything. However, and very important follow the rational truth when you ask these hard questions.

A friend of mine said the other day, and I quote “for every question you ask Google, there are answers that prove what you believe and those that don't, however not all answers are equal.”
