Thanks for your time

I am done blogging, and so as a final fair well I will explain why.

I started this blog back in December 2012 to share ideas and combat bad ideas such as anti-vaccers, creationists, conspiracy theorists, regressive idealists, but mainly religion. Honestly I have at many times considered giving up as it seems like all you do is talk to walls. However, finally I have realized that this is largely a waste of time as religious types of beliefs are just not worth combating anymore, as it is frustrating and I have enough trouble with my sports teams giving me blood pressure problems (that was a joke). Of course I realize combating bad ideas is important, but these people will not listen. In fact even when they agree, they disagree as insert religious belief here.

I still believe that religion is a bane to society, and I do think that anyone that believes in a god automatically is disadvantaged when it comes to other issues which require rationality. This does not mean all theists are dumb, it just means the hurdles they need to overcome when discussing societal issues are larger than others. But religion (or religious thinking) has become bigger than just belief in a god, it now includes multiple social justice topics which are based in illusions just like religion. In fact I would say that every day everyone is encountering religious beliefs in some way. This is the reason I am hanging it up, I just cannot deal with this stupidity anymore. But, as I like examples, let me share some with you.

1) The use of statistics is largely misused and misunderstood. As a practicing scientist, I cannot explain how this annoys me and don't get me started on the p-factor. So, when someone says in  South Africa the large majority of violent crime in South Africa is committed by black people it makes sense that this is true. After all the black population in South Africa is 79 %, as such one would expect at least 79 % of crime committed to be related statistically. Accepted simple statistics.

However, in the USA when more black people are in jail as they statistically commit more crimes than other racial groups, this is considered racism and not simple statistics.

2) Personal feelings cloud rational thought. Look, everyone has personal experiences, but these do not have a place in debate as they are one example and not true of the totality. If I had to use personal experience as an argument, I probably could justify anything, but this is not reality. Reality is based in fact and not a personal experience which upsets you.

3) Does it matter who I vote for? Does it matter what color my skin is? Does it matter what my gender is? When did these things become important to someone before they will start a discussion in an equal society, that social justice warriors seem so hell bent on getting.

Why do you want an echo-chamber?

4) One of these figurines is considered sexist and the other is not? You figure it out this annoys me, it really is not hard.

5) If you believe two of all the animals on the planet could fit into a boat during a global flood. You are a moron and not worth my time.

Whats next? Who knows, maybe a  science blog based on published papers (i.e. facts cannot be argued against, although I don't really believe that after dealing with creationists), or maybe nothing. Thats the future, but this blog and my attempt at creating a rational world is done here and now. The blog will remain here into prosperity, or until the social justice warriors find it offensive and get it removed, or until a theocracy rules and finds it objectionable and gets it removed.

Lastly, to those who are happy to see me go and think this is a win. Its not a win you are just a moron not worth my time.

Reading the Bible - Genesis 42

This is not a debunking of the Bible, this is a realistic view of what the Bible stories are. If you believe the stories in the Bible are true you are living in denial of history and science among multiple other subjects. Remember, you need to prove the Bible inherrent before you can claim inherency.
xxxxxxxxxxx

In previous posts I have dealt with the dysfunctional families that Jehovah loves so much, well this week is no different as we delve further into the dysfunctional family that is Israel and the Israelite patriarchs.

At this point in our reading, famine has devastated the entire world and so the sons of Israel who are residing in Canaan are tasked by Israel (Jacob) to go to Egypt and get grain. We should remember here that the reason that Egypt has grain is testament to Joseph and his dream interpretation which was inspired by Jehovah. It should also be noted here that Jacob does not send all his sons, as he decides that his favorite Benjamin (who is filling in as proxy for Joseph) should not go. After all he does not want to lose his favorite child.....again.
"But Jacob did not send Benjamin, Joseph’s brother, with his other brothers, for he said: “Perhaps a fatal accident may befall him.”"

When the Israelite patriarchs arrive in Egypt they bow down to Joseph who immediately recognizes them as his brothers that sold him down the river to slave traders. This bowing down is also very important, as it is a clear fulfillment of Josephs dream in which his brothers bowed down to him, see Genesis 37.
"Joseph was the man in authority over the land, and he was the one who sold grain to all the people of the earth. So Joseph’s brothers came and bowed low to him with their faces to the ground."
interestingly this fealty that the brothers show towards the Egyptian empire would suggest that they were part of the Egyptian empire, yet no mention is made of this in the Bible. Probably because the Biblical time line does not fit into the time line when the Canaan area would have been under Egyptian control.

However, lets ignore the historicity of the Bible and continue the story.

Joseph decides that it will be a good idea to accuse his brothers of being spies and then put them in jail. I have no idea exactly why Joseph deemed this plan of action necessary, but I assume it is to get the brothers to  admit to their sins about Joseph to themselves.
"Your servants do not act as spies.” But he said to them: “Not so! You have come to see the vulnerable areas of the land!” At this they said: “Your servants are 12 brothers. We are the sons of but one man in the land of Caʹnaan, and the youngest is now with our father, whereas the other one is no more.”......... As surely as Pharʹaoh lives, you will not leave this place until your youngest brother comes here. Send one of you to bring your brother while you remain in bondage. In this way, your words may be tested out to see if you are telling the truth. And if not, then, as surely as Pharʹaoh lives, you are spies.” With that he put them together in custody for three days."
After three days in jail, Joseph then goes to his brothers and says they can go back to their father with the grain. but, they can only go if they leave one brother enslaved and bring back to him the younger brother Benjamin to prove that their story is correct. This essentially is the way that Joseph is going to verify their story about no being spies, but in reality it is his way to see his brother Benjamin.
"Joseph said to them on the third day: “Do this and live, for I fear God. If you are upright, let one of your brothers remain in bondage in your house of custody, but the rest of you may go and take grain to alleviate the famine in your households. Then bring your youngest brother to me, so that your words will be found trustworthy and you will not die.” And they did so. And they said to one another: “We are surely being punished on account of our brother, because we saw his distress when he begged us to show compassion, but we did not listen. That is why this distress has come upon us.”"
Upon an agreement of sorts, Joseph keeps Simeon in bondage while the other brothers are allowed to return to their father. Interestingly, Joseph also sent their money for grain back with the brothers. However, this they only found out that their money was returned to them on their journey back. This the brothers rightfully perceive as a problem, after all Joseph is so rational as to randomly accuse them of spying.  They are thus fearful that if they go back to Egypt they may get accused of stealing the money which was not in their possession in jail anyways. Okay, so this is a massive plot hole, but hey its the Bible so insert magic explanation that makes no sense.

Finally the brothers make it back to Canaan and their fathers house. On arrival the brothers relate the story of their trip and jail time to Israel. It is here that we see even more how screwed up this family is.
"Jacob their father exclaimed to them: “It is I you have bereaved! Joseph is no more, and Simʹe·on is no more, and you are going to take Benjamin! It is upon me that all these things have come!” .............. However, he said: “My son will not go down with you, because his brother is dead and he alone is left. If a fatal accident should befall him on the journey you would make, then you would certainly bring down my gray hairs to the Grave in grief.”"
So Jacob (Israel) is giving up on his son Simeon to what would certainly be death if Benjamin is not brought to Egypt. He is not even prepared to take the trip himself to Egypt to plead for his son! Remember, this is the family that is blessed by Jehovah as being an upright and loyal family.

Not sure how much of this crap one can believe or tolerate until you see the woods for the trees. Either the Bible is a fairytale, or the God of the bible is a tyrant that you serve. Its your choice, make it well.

#blacklivesmatter another perspective

I have a confession to make, I may have been wrong about the #blacklivesmatter movement. But wait, before you run away and think another mind lost to the regressive left, let me clarify that my opinions have not changed I just think that the movement may have a place in the conversation albeit not in the way it was intended.

#blacklivesmatter is throwing open inherent problems and also throwing open statistics that are showing that racism claimed by many is in fact non-existent. In effect #blacklivesmatter is showing us where problems lie in society and is giving us an opportunity to address these. The big question now is how the movement goes forward, i.e. is it going to make a difference or remain a farce. To clarify, is the movement going to continue along its current path based on falsehoods, or will it actually address the problems that #blacklivesmatter are claiming exist. Here is a list of claims made on the blacklivesmatter website.

Screenshot from blacklivesmatter.com (Source)
Now, when the movement says that "2.8 million Black people are locked in cages in this country is state violence." We are now able to look at crime statistics and observe that while it is true that a far larger proportion of the black population in the US is incarcerated, a far larger portion of violent crimes in the US are conducted by the black population (2012 statistics, 2013 homicide statistics). As such one would expect this higher rate of incarceration. This means we need to understand why this crime rate exists and not blame it on racism, after all the cause of crime cannot be racism as that would imply then that the perpetrators are racists committing crime against a particular race group.
Then there are the bizarre claims, such as "How Black folks living with disabilities and different abilities bear the burden of state sponsored Darwinian experiments that attempt to squeeze us into boxes of normality defined by white supremacy, and that is state violence" which are horrific if true. But, I think to say state sanctioned "Darwinian projects" that are governed by "white supremacists" needs to be proved. If this is true then I think we can all agree that similar to Hitlers anti-semitic atrocities, there will be not many people that condone it. But, such a large claim bears a large burden of proof. Needless to say this goes for many of the other claims presented.

So, what is the way forward? That is for the organization to decide, but it needs to bear the burden of proof if it is making these very bold claims. There are claims here that sound outright outrageous, then there are claims, that are demonstrably flawed but raise issues that need to be addressed.  I am of the opinion that we should invest in society and as such there are claims made by blacklivesmatter I would gladly embrace and fight for. However, before I can stand against such tyranny I need to see the evidence for such bold claims, I cannot accept these claims based on nothing.

Now, I am sure there are people who believe that the evidence for these horrible crimes can never be presented, as there is some grand conspiracy in place which is hiding all the information. To this I have the following to say, if you hold this view you are a conspiracy theorist. Just consider that the US government could not hide a blow job in the White House, then there are the Pentagon papers, Wikileaks, and other hacks that always get the information.

In closing, I am glad that the movement exists, as it is making a reality of societal problems that need to be addressed. Unfortunately, it is not the problems that blacklivesmatter wants us to assume exists.

Reading the Koran - Sura 3 Verse 55 - 63

This is not a debunking of the Koran, this is a realistic view of what the Koran says and promotes. If you believe the lessons/stories in the Koran then you are living in denial of history and science among multiple other subject, and to top it off you are a twisted individual that promotes murder among many other crimes.
xxxxxxxxxxx

I will be honest, during preparing for this reading of the Koran I had to check the cover twice to make sure I was reading the correct holy text. In essence today is essentially the Koran showing that Jesus is divine and that Christianity is the correct way to Allah. Now if you read the apologetics behind these verses you will come to a totally different opinion, but I believe any sane person reading the text will come to the same conclusion that I do. To be clear and avoid any confusion, this above statement does not mean I believe the Bible is true and Christianity is the way to a god.

Verse 55 says the follows
"When Allah said, ‘O Jesus, I shall take you[r soul], and I shall raise you up toward Myself, and I shall clear you of [the calumnies of] the faithless, and I shall set those who follow you above the faithless until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me will be your return, whereat I will judge between you concerning that about which you used to differ."
Ok, so Jesus got resurrected. He also got cleared of any false charges against him by Allah. Importantly, we get told that those that follow Jesus (i.e. Christianity) will be set above the faithless. So here we see that the Koran is showing that Christianity is the way to Allah. So, what do the apologists say?
Apparently, this is all meant to show that Jesus was a man and did not get resurrected. In fact we see in verse 61 and 62 says that Muhammad corrected the false views on Jesus.
"Should anyone argue with you concerning him, after the knowledge that has come to you, say, ‘Come! Let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, our souls and your souls, then let us pray earnestly and call down Allah’s curse upon the liars.’
This is indeed the true account, for sure. There is no god but Allah, and indeed Allah is the All-mighty, the All-wise."
But herein lies the dilemma for the Muslim, this Koran verse is saying that the above verse is correct. This means that all the reasons used to justify Jesus as a prophet and not the son of god as claimed by Christians can only be found in Hadith, and not the Koran. But the Koran is the perfect message from Allah and as such we have to come to the conclusion that Jesus is in fact godly and that the only way to get to heaven is to be a Christian.

Another apologetic argument forwarded is that this is only meant to refer to Jewish suffering, i.e. the holocaust, and Jesus's divinity is not even at question here as we know he is just human, because apologist x says so. I this vein verse 56  and 57 are used,
"As for the faithless, I will punish them with a severe punishment in the world and the Hereafter; and they will have no helpers.’
But as for those who have faith and do righteous deeds, He will pay them in full their rewards, and Allah does not like the wrongdoers."
So now while an anti-Semetic Muslim can use this to justify any suffering of the Jewish people, it still does not do away with Jesus divinity. If anything it reiterates his divinity and that Christianity is the only way to Allah.

So, if a Christian ever needs an argument for Christianity against a Muslim. I think using the Koran they can show with clarity that Jesus is in fact the only way to Allah. Although, perhaps the Christian should also realize what the are promoting, when they promote Biblical views.

What a way to go, the Koran disproving the Koran yet again. See you next week.

Reading the Bible - Genesis 41

This is not a debunking of the Bible, this is a realistic view of what the Bible stories are. If you believe the stories in the Bible are true you are living in denial of history and science among multiple other subjects. Remember, you need to prove the Bible inherrent before you can claim inherency.
xxxxxxxxxxx

Todays reading again deals with dream interpretation, and this time it is two years after Joseph famously foretold the dreams of Pharaoh's cup bearer and baker in the prison. This is the famous (and totally historically inaccurate) story of Joseph interpreting Pharaohs dream and the subsequent glory of Joseph. As such let us start off and take a look at what Pharoah dreamt.
"Pharʹaoh dreamed that he was standing by the Nile River. And there, coming up from the river, were seven fine-looking, fat cows, and they were feeding on the Nile grass. There were seven other cows that looked ugly and thin coming up after them from the Nile, and they stood alongside the fat cows by the bank of the Nile. Then the ugly, thin cows began to eat up the seven fine-looking, fat cows."
And
"There were seven ears of grain coming up on one stalk, full and choice. And growing up after them were seven ears of grain that were thin and scorched by the east wind. And the thin ears of grain began to swallow up the seven full and choice ears of grain."
So as we can see these two dreams were different dreams with the same meaning. Needless to say Pharaoh was not happy with these nightmares and the Bible even tells us his "spirit was agitated" and as such he sought out dream interpreters to decipher the dream but none of them could help Pharaoh. Luckily for Pharaoh, his cup bearer remembered Joseph and his dream interpretation in prison and so he told Pharaoh his story. Now while this preceding sentences may not seem remarkable, they certainly are as cup bearers in Egypt are only mentioned in the Bible (on my searches I am asserting this, and I may be wrong) and the existence of a cup bearer serving Pharaoh while not impossible does raise a flag of uncertainty, especially as this cup bearer is giving Pharaoh advice. Secondly the Bible asserts that Pharaohs spirit was agitated, now while to most Christians this will not be remarkable, I am reading from the New World Translation and according to the Watchtower organization the spirit is not discernible so what Pharaoh was feeling is a mystery unto itself.

Needless to say, Pharaoh calls Joseph from the jail to interpret his dreams. Importantly, Joseph says dreams are interpreted by Jehovah and not him as he is just a vessel.
"Then Pharʹaoh said to Joseph: “I had a dream, but there is no one to interpret it. Now I have heard it said about you that you can hear a dream and interpret it.” At this Joseph answered Pharʹaoh: “I need not be considered! God will speak concerning Pharʹaoh’s welfare.”"
This is important, as it shows Joseph glorifying Jehovah, but it also shows that dream interpretation is rubbish as all that is happening is that J4ehovah is giving messages to people. But if this is true then Jehovah can interact with his servants and so Jehovah works on Earth and thus exists inside our time and space. If Jehovah exists in our time and space then his existence is testable......unless magic. needless to say we are not allowed to test Jehovah according to most Christians, and so in essence Jehovah God is magic. Seems legit right?

At this time Pharaoh tells Joseph his dreams and upon hearing them Joseph tells Pharaoh what they mean.
"“The dreams of Pharʹaoh are one and the same. The true God has told to Pharʹaoh what He will do."
So the reason Pharaoh received two dreams was god making sure that Pharaoh got the message. This is important as God is telling Pharaoh that the dreams are going to happen and there is no way out of this future predicament.
"There are to be seven years of great abundance in all the land of Egypt. But seven years of famine will certainly arise after them, and all the abundance in the land of Egypt will certainly be forgotten, and the famine will exhaust the land."
So god will send seven years of plenty to be followed by seven years of drought. Although, this idea of plenty and famine is apparently is a myth propagated by all cultures and as such is not a historical fact at all. So the Bible is embracing a myth as fact after all Genesis is meant to be a historically accurate book. Surely this should tell us this story is bull. But, let us continue.
"The dream was given twice to Pharʹaoh because the matter has been firmly established by the true God, and the true God will soon carry it out."
But why would God give famine? Is there any reason for this? No, there is no reason except to propagate the mythical story that is to follow in Genesis 42 when Joseph meets his family again. So this story is in fact explaining to us in not so many words that Jehovah is a sadist!

(Source)

Luckily for Pharaoh, Joseph also has some advice to help Egypt falling into anarchy during the famine.
"“So now let Pharʹaoh look for a man who is discreet and wise and place him over the land of Egypt. Let Pharʹaoh take action and appoint overseers in the land, and he should collect one fifth of the produce of Egypt during the seven years of abundance. And let them collect all the food during these coming good years, and let them stockpile grain under Pharʹaoh’s authority as food to be stored in the cities and safeguarded there."
Needles to say, Pharaoh is wildly impressed with Josephs interpretation, for no other reason than the cup bearers testimony? It is for this reason that Pharaoh appoints Joseph to take care of all the preparations for the famine, after all only Gods servant could do such a good job.
"So Pharʹaoh said to his servants: “Can another man be found like this one in whom there is the spirit of God?” Pharʹaoh then said to Joseph: “Since God has caused you to know all of this, there is no one as discreet and wise as you. You will personally be over my house, and all my people will obey you implicitly. Only in my role as king will I be greater than you.”"
So Joseph gets enriched and becomes a king in his own right with a wife given to him, and at the same time he also becomes a father of two. Needless to say there is zero evidence for this central figure Joseph that saved Ancient Egypt from this famine. Naturally the reason there is no evidence, is because there was no famine.

So after seven years of plenty, the famine starts and Egypt is saved due to Josephs impeccable planning. It should also be noted that this famine was not localized to Egypt, apparently it was worldwide!
"The famine continued over all the surface of the earth. Then Joseph began to open up all the granaries that were among them and to sell to the Egyptians, as the famine had a strong grip on the land of Egypt. Moreover, people of all the earth came to Egypt to buy from Joseph, because the famine had a strong grip on all the earth."
Just for clarity, there is zero evidence for a world wide famine.

So there you have it, a myth weaving threads into other myths all packed as historical fact. But please remember this is the true word of God. I need a Tylenol, see you next week.

More a rant than a blogpost

This is more a rant than a blogpost, but I think there are some lessons to be take from it. So enjoy...... or not.
xxxxxxxxxxxx

We live on this planet Earth and we as the majority of society have adopted certain rules and systems to live by. For example, the world runs on a capitalistic model. Now whether you think the capitalistic model is good or bad, is completely irrelevant as it just is the way the world works. In fact even if you look at communist China you will see that they are anything but communist in their economy, so there really is no country that has opted out of this system. Now don't mention North Korea, as really they are almost on a different planet, but more on that later.

Another system we have largely adopted is the principles of human rights as set forth by the United Nations. Granted, most countries do not adhere to these human rights regulation, but the general idea is very good. In fact, as I have pointed out before I do believe human rights are largely not adopted due to the influence religion holds in various societies. However, there are other systems that we have largely adapted planet wide, such as democracy. This means that everyones vote count and essentially brings us full circle back to the original hypothesis that "we as the majority of society have adopted certain rules and systems to live by."

However, I really do believe that we are very weak on the systems that we have adapted. In fact I would say we have not tested these systems aptly and if we are to progress as a society we should test these systems at all times even though it may lead us into very uncomfortable territory, both philosophically and realistically. I also believe this is a modern trend, as in the past systems got turned over when they did not work for the majority. You just have to look to the fall of Apartheid in South Africa, the US civil war, and the French Revolution. In fact I would argue that the fall of communist Russia is not even a real event, if we consider current life in Putin-ia.

So, what do I propose? I think the easiest way to sum it up is to look at some real life examples and consider how they should be dealt with.

Example 1: The 2007-8 Financial crisis, but this can refer to any other financial crisis where a decision is made by a government to bailout a company or bank. Now, I will be the first to admit that the bailout led to a lot of people not losing pensions and all their assets. But, this is not the way capitalism works! If we want to live in a capitalistic society then we need to adapt capitalistic principles, if this entails many people losing their money and some rich bank owners staying rich at their expense, then this should happen. The people thus affected (it would have been everyone I believe) can then decide if they want to continue with this system or adapt a new capitalistic system with more regulations or a non-capitalistic system. Let me be clear here, I am not promoting any alternate system. I am just merely stating that for capitalism to work, we need to adopt it correctly. Adopting it correctly during the financial crisis would have either sorted out the problems or we would have had a new system. Instead here we sit not advancing at all. Perhaps,we could have learnt a lot as happened with the Great Depression.

 (Source)

Example 2: The North Korean government has recently asked for foreign aid (13 September 2016) for flood stricken areas in their country. Remember, this is the same North Korea that last week (9 September 2016) detonated a massive nuclear bomb in its ever expanding efforts to become a nuclear nation with capabilities to threaten its neighbors and even more. So what should we do? Personally I say screw the lot of them, if they want to play games and pretend to be outside our systems then they deserve nothing. I realise that the people that are suffering are not the people in charge, but the only way the idiots in charge are going to change is when they have no more country to rule. Look what happened in South Africa at the end of Apartheid, one of the reasons for the end was increased civil unrest. So the suffering can actually help in the end, or we have to condone North Korea's nuclear desires and send foreign aid.

The Great Moron (Source

As you can see from these two examples, suffering will be rampant if we follow our systems and I am under no misapprehensions about this. But, if are to go forward, then it is essential that we try our utmost and not fool ourselves into believing everything is alright.

Rant done.

Reading the Koran - Sura 3 Verse 42 - 54

This is not a debunking of the Koran, this is a realistic view of what the Koran says and promotes. If you believe the lessons/stories in the Koran then you are living in denial of history and science among multiple other subject, and to top it off you are a twisted individual that promotes murder among many other crimes.
xxxxxxxxxxx

The Koran reading today is a truly bizarre in that it clearly is showing that Jesus is a divine being either equivalent to Allah, as some Christians believe, or very close in nature to God, i.e. second best like the Jehovah's Witnesses believe. However, in any apologetics you read about these verses, you will find there is a great deal done to try make Jesus not look like the divine being he is been reported as. So I will try my utmost to do justice to this reading, but if it gets confusing it really is due to the hoops the apologists want you jump through so that they can dismiss the virgin birth and Jesus' divinity. Interestingly, we also get some details about the virgin birth that are not mentioned in the Bible.

Jesus's name in Arabic (Source)

The first two verses inform us how special Mary is, and that she herself should stay true to Allah.
"And when the angels said, ‘O Mary, Allah has chosen you and purified you, and He has chosen you above the world’s women. O Mary, be obedient to your Lord, and prostrate and bow down with those who bow [in worship].’"
Remarkably Mary is so venerated in the Koran, yet Muhammad's mother is not venerated to the same degree. In fact Muhammad's mother is in hell according to Muhammad Saalih Al-Munajjid, so she is certainly not revered to the degree that the heavenly residing Mary is.

Verses 44 -47 relate the story of the virgin birth, but it starts of with an interesting tidbit about which angel was going to have sex with Mary to impregnate her in the super special spiritual virgin birth way.
"These accounts are from the Unseen, which We reveal to you, and you were not with them when they were casting lots [to see] which of them would take charge of Mary’s care, nor were you with them when they were contending."
So here we see Mary as a piece of meat that is getting gambled for, i.e. casting lots, by the horny angels. Now while it could now be argued that if an angel bedded Mary then she was no longer a virgin, this would be a contradiction to the verse which explicitly states that Allah was going to impregnate her miraculously. Perhaps here miraculous means magic penis?
"She said, ‘My Lord, how shall I have a child seeing that no human has ever touched me?’ He said, ‘So it is that Allah creates whatever He wishes. When He decides on a matter He just says to it “Be!” and it is."

So after this impregnation Jesus is born and we hear a little bit about how Jesus will teach the Jews, as well as seeing that Jesus was in deed a magic man who could breathe life into clay birds and heal the sick.
"And He will teach him the Book and wisdom, the Torah and the Evangel, and [he will be] an apostle to the Children of Israel, [and he will declare,] ‘I have certainly brought you a sign from your Lord: I will create for you out of clay the form of a bird, then I will breathe into it, and it will become a bird by Allah’s leave. And I heal the blind and the leper and I revive the dead by Allah’s leave. And I will tell you what you have eaten and what you have stored in your houses. There is indeed a sign in that for you, should you be faithful."
Needless to say Islamic apologists try to dismiss these miracles that are written down in the Koran as Jesus just doing good. For examples healing are meant to be interpreted as Jesus giving advice and creating spiritual wellness, even though the person remained sick. The part about making a clay bird into a real bird is meant to be interpreted as a parable, well because Jesus spoke in parables. Now, I am not saying Jesus was divine, but according to the Koran he could do miracles just like Muhammad and so I am not sure why apologists try dismiss an accepted prophets miracles. The only conclusion I can come to is that it is important to dismiss the divinity of Jesus as it would otherwise give Christians a claim to truth and then Islam fails.

Verse 50 shows that Jesus came to amend some of the laws of the Jews. Unremarkably, this narrative is exactly the same one that Christians use to dismiss old testament laws such as stoning of witches. Perhaps more remarkable is that Jesus got rid of some of the tragic Jewish laws, such as stoning, and then Muhammad reinstated them. So much for the religion of peace.
"And [I come] to confirm [the truth of] that which is before me of the Torah, and to make lawful for you some of the things that were forbidden you. I have brought you a sign from your Lord; so be wary of Allah and obey me."

Verses 52-3 makes sure that we understand that Jesus is divine. Here we get an account of doubt from Jesus disciples about his divinity and therein they corroborate that Jesus was in fact divine.
"And when Jesus sensed their faithlessness, he said, ‘Who will be my helpers toward Allah?’ The Disciples said, ‘We will be helpers of Allah. We have faith in Allah, and bear witness that we are muslims. Our Lord, we believe in what You have sent down, and we follow the apostle, so write us among the witnesses.’"

Lastly, we know that Jesus is on the path to getting killed by those evil Jews, and so in closing today we get a taste of what is to come when it mentions the Jews plotting about Jesus. Interestingly, Allah was also plotting which is remarkable when you think that Jesus did die. Is this saying that Allah is not as powerful as a bunch of Jews in the desert around 0 BC?
"Then they plotted [against Jesus], and Allah also devised, and Allah is the best of devisers."

Okay, so Jesus is divine according to the Koran, but not so divine according to Islamic scholars. Go figure that out and try make me understand. See you next week.

Reading the Bible - Genesis 40

This is not a debunking of the Bible, this is a realistic view of what the Bible stories are. If you believe the stories in the Bible are true you are living in denial of history and science among multiple other subjects. Remember, you need to prove the Bible inherrent before you can claim inherency.

Update 09/10/2016: In the post I asserted that Jehovah's Witnesses tolerate dream interpretation. This is in fact incorrect, they do not accept dream interpretation. They only accept the dream interpretations presented in the Bible.

xxxxxxxxxxx

Todays Bible reading is an interesting one, as it raises a big issue for modern day Christians and essentially how they deal with this groups them into two camps, the dream can be prophecy from God and the dreams are just dreams camp. It is probably important to also realize that there is another group that takes the positions that a dream can sometimes/maybe be a prophecy if everything is right. Outright, I dismiss this group as fence sitters on the are dreams prophecy issues, as how can you actually know if a dream is from God only sometimes. This view is  basically the, I will accept things that appeal to me fallacy, more commonly known as subjective reality.

We know from last week that Joseph is in jail for not doing anything except beside getting sexually harassed by his owners wife. While in jail two of Pharaohs servants are sent to prison for displeasing Pharaoh. Because Joseph is so important in the jail, these new boys are assigned to him and eventually they both have dreams. These dreams really worry these two men, and they tell Joseph their concern as they believe the dreams should be interpreted according to the norm in Egypt at that time. Luckily for these two however, Joseph asserts that Jehovah is in charge of all dreams and they should just tell him about the dreams.
"The next morning, when Joseph came in and saw them, they looked dejected.   So he asked the officers of Pharʹaoh who were in custody with him in his master’s house: “Why are your faces gloomy today?” At this they said to him: “We each had a dream, but there is no interpreter with us.” Joseph said to them: “Do not interpretations belong to God? Relate it to me, please.”"

The two servants relate the dreams and then Joseph gives them the interpretation.
"So the chief cupbearer related his dream to Joseph, saying to him: “In my dream, there was a vine before me. And on the vine, there were three twigs, and as it was sprouting shoots, it blossomed, and its clusters ripened into grapes.  And Pharʹaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes and squeezed them out into Pharʹaoh’s cup. After that I put the cup in Pharʹaoh’s hand.”"
Joseph tells the cup bearer that this means in three days he will become Pharaohs cup bearer again. The cup bearer is pleased and promises Joseph he will remember him when he leaves the prison. Spoiler he forgets about Joseph.

The second servant then relates his dream.
"When the chief baker saw that Joseph had interpreted something good, he said to him: “I too was in my dream, and there were three baskets of white bread on my head, and in the top basket, there were all sorts of baked goods for Pharʹaoh, and there were birds eating them out of the basket on top of my head.”"
Joseph then informs the baker that Pharaoh will behead him and that birds will eat his flesh. Remarkably we don't get any feedback from the baker, so I gather he may have been annoyed and started a prison riot.

So what happens to these two servants?
"Now the third day was Pharʹaoh’s birthday, and he made a feast for all his servants, and he brought out both the chief cupbearer and the chief baker in the presence of his servants.  And he returned the chief cupbearer to his post of cupbearer, and he continued to hand the cup to Pharʹaoh. But he hanged the chief baker, just as Joseph had interpreted to them"
Joseph two for two, perfect record!

So why should Christians care about this story? Firstly its bullshit, as there is no evidence for this Joseph person in Egypt at the time when this was meant to happen, despite what some history-revisionists will tell you. Secondly, if dream interpretation is a real thing, then why are the Christian views on this so splintered? I mean its real or its not real, yet even the organization that claims to be Jehovah's organization on Earth are fence sitters on the subject. Surely the Jehovah's Witnesses would know if this is real or not when they are claiming biblical authority. Perhaps, the only way to rationalize dream interpretation is to realize that it is your mind creating something and has nothing to do with a God giving a message, especially when the god that is meant to be giving you the message has zero evidence backing him/her/it up.

Thats it for this week, and I hope you have a few great dreams until next time.

Does acupuncture work?

Before you comment take a read.

I have been considering writing this post for a while, but have avoided it specifically as I know what the word "acupuncture" invokes in most skeptics mind. But after a discussion with a fellow skeptic the other day I think it is time to address this issue, basically because I think there are some things that need to be clarified and in essence it comes down to terminology.  In a nutshell, acupuncture in the East (where I live) and in the West (where the word acupuncture elicits a response of distaste) are very different practices. So let me give examples from two different countries and the meaning that acupuncture invokes.

In Korea acupuncture is what most people would classify as physiotherapy or an extension thereof. Sure there are the pseudo-oriental doctors that will try convince you about life forces etc, but then there are doctors which also encourage non-vaccination in the West. Basically, acupuncture is mostly what has been termed dry needling in the West. So to outright reject acupuncture in the East is rather silly as it is the method of dry needling. Another idea they employ is electrotherapy or transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, but instead of external pads some doctors will use the inserted needles to relay the electric signal. I have to say some doctors, as some doctors will also use external pads, after all this is a type of physiotherapy so why would they not.

In South Africa, acupuncture when not used as dry needling by physiotherapists, is the principle of chi and getting the life force in tune with aromatherapy, needles and relaxing music. In other words a spa treatment with no practical health benefits, except to elicit a placebo effect or make you feel so relaxed that you feel better even though you are not. This is what most skeptics fear when they hear the word acupuncture and as such I cannot blame people for skepticism regarding acupuncture.

Now, considering these two examples we can then see that the practice of acupuncture is a complicated story. Essentially it is easy to throw it out and say why use the word acupuncture when you can say dry needling, but honestly most people do not even know what dry needling is. As such I think it is beneficial to look into acupuncture and understand that there is the positive and also the outright lies. So when someone says acupuncture works, perhaps it is a good idea to ask them what they mean when they are talking about acupuncture. I will say acupuncture works while living in Korea, but I may not be so forthcoming when speaking to a healer from the West as I know they are talking about a completely different thing.

So what are your feelings about acupuncture? But if you respond, perhaps you need to first clarify what you are talking about.

Reading the Koran - Sura 3 verses 31 - 41

This is not a debunking of the Koran, this is a realistic view of what the Koran says and promotes. If you believe the lessons/stories in the Koran then you are living in denial of history and science among multiple other subject, and to top it off you are a twisted individual that promotes murder among many other crimes.
xxxxxxxxxxx

Todays reading of the Koran starts us on the journey of Jesus, and who Jesus is with respect to Koran. So if you are a Christian strap in for a different take on your Messiah, and now lets begin.

First up we learn a little about Jesus heritage when the Koran mentions that he was of the line of Noah and Abrham and Amran (denoted as Imran in the Koran). This is important as it shows a direct link between Gods chosen people and Jesus who is also a chosen prophet. What is stupid about this however is that it links Adam to Jesus, but according to the Koran everyone is linked to Adam as the only man created by Allah. So Jesus in essence is not as special as anyone else as we are all linked to Adam? This questions the importance of this lineage, or it implies there are other people that were not created by Allah. Remember, If there are other people not created by Allah then by default they don't have to obey Allah as they are not his creations. Yet, this idea of non-obedience is in direct violation of the Koran which stipulates capitulation to Allah.
"Indeed Allah chose Adam and Noah, and the progeny of Abraham and the progeny of Imran above all the nations; some of them are descendants of the others, and Allah is all-hearing, all-knowing."

The next few verses deal with Mary, mother of Jesus, and her lineage.
"When the wife of Imran said, ‘My Lord, I dedicate to You what is in my belly, in consecration. Accept it from me; indeed You are the All-hearing, the All-knowing.’"
Interestingly here, they refer to Imran who lived thousands of years before Mary. The apologetics behind this occurrence of the name Imran goes something like this:  Imran is being used as a clan name and to designate a mother, as such it has a double meaning because I say so and I feel uncomfortable addressing this issue. Basically, the occurrence of Imran here shows how inaccurate the Koran is in its history.

Moving on we see that Mary is born, and her mother dedicates her to a life of service to allah or virginity, yet also wants her to have kids.
"And when she bore her, she said, ‘My Lord, I have borne a female [child]’ —and Allah knew better what she had borne— ‘and the female is not like the male. I have named her Mary, and I commend her and her offspring to Your care against [the evil of] the outcast Satan.’"
Amazingly this swift sidestep does away with the virgin birth that so plagues Christianity, so well done to the writers of the Koran. At this point in the story we see that Allah accepts Mary, but also puts her into the care of Zechariah who is a priest. So we can see that Mary now enters a life of servitude towards Allah, and amazingly Allah gives Mary a lot of magic food. Perhaps this is also where Mary got her magic penis that impregnated her. Okay, I am just saying this smells like bullshit.
"Thereupon her Lord accepted her with a gracious acceptance, and made her grow up in a worthy fashion, and He charged Zechariah with her care. Whenever Zechariah visited her in the sanctuary, he would find provisions with her. He said, ‘O Mary, from where does this come for you?’ She said, ‘It comes from Allah. Allah provides whomever He wishes without any reckoning.’"

After Zechariah sees Marys magic food supply he prays to Allah for a blessing, and Allah says to him that he will become a father in due time. Interestingly, a priest has to see evidence of miracles before believing in the power of Allah, yet we are meant to take the Koran on face value.

"Thereat Zechariah supplicated his Lord. He said, ‘My Lord! Grant me a good offspring from You! Indeed You hear all supplications.’"
Happily for Zechariah Allah blesses his barren wife and allows her to become pregnant with John the baptist who will go on  to bless Jesus and make him known as a messenger of Allah.
"Then the angels called out to him, as he stood praying in the sanctuary: ‘Allah gives you the good news of John, as a confirmer of a Word of Allah,1 eminent and chaste, a prophet, among the righteous.’ He said, ‘My Lord, how shall I have a son while old age has overtaken me and my wife is barren?’ He said, ‘So it is that Allah does whatever He wishes.’"
So just as in the Bible we see old infertile women becoming pregnant, it truly is remarkable how this Allah guy works. Perhaps he could work well enough to allow all those couples having problems getting pregnant to become pregnant.......don't hold your breathe.

So what sign does Allah give Zeceriah as proof that his wife will be pregnant?
"He said, ‘My Lord, grant me a sign.’ He said, ‘Your sign is that you will not speak to people for three days except in gestures. And remember Your Lord greatly, and glorify Him morning and evening.’"
Thats right this man is struck mute for three days. However, while this is an absurd claim the reason I bring this up is because apologists say that in fact he was not struck mute, but rather just had to keep quite for three days. But if these apologetics are true, then they are redefining simple syntax, as that is not what the verse says. In essence we are seeing that apologists are also just making shit up to suit there narrative just as in all other religions. This is dangerous, and one reason why a reformation in Islam is necessary as vile ideas are getting spread around by people with an agenda.

Thats all for now, see you next time as we delve further into the Mary and Jesus story.

Reading the Bible - Genesis 39

This is not a debunking of the Bible, this is a realistic view of what the Bible stories are. If you believe the stories in the Bible are true you are living in denial of history and science among multiple other subjects. Remember, you need to prove the Bible inherrent before you can claim inherency.
xxxxxxxxxxx

Joseph has been sold into slavery by his brothers and the reading today deals with Josephs arrival in Egypt and his subsequent adventures there. On his arrival Joseph is sold into slavery to Potipher who is an important court official. Luckily for Potipher, Joseph is loved a lot by Jehovah and as such Joseph and subsequently Potipher's house gets blessed. With these blessings Potipher sees that Joseph is special, and Jospeh gets entrusted with all of Potipher's household and all his business dealings.
"Joseph kept finding favor in his eyes, and he became his personal attendant. So he appointed him over his house, and he put him in charge of all that was his."
I think it is important to consider here just why does Jehovah bless those people he wants when he wants, but not those he does not want when they need it. Think about all those starving children in Africa and wonder why Jehovah does not help them. Guess we have to come to the conclusion that Jehovah does not care. Now it may be submitted that Satan is in charge of the world (i.e. starving children now are not gods fault, as its Satan's world), but then that would have held in this time as well, as such any blessing given Joseph is also possible today. Put two and two together, and the answer is?

Now with Josephs blessing come an unwanted blessing, that being Potipher's wife wants to sex Joseph up. However, being the honorable God fearing man that he is Joseph declines and declines as this is the only thing Potipher did not give him.
"Now after these things, the wife of his master began to cast her eyes on Joseph and say: “Lie down with me.” But he refused and said to his master’s wife: “Here my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has entrusted everything he has into my care. There is no one greater in this house than I am, and he has not withheld from me anything at all except you, because you are his wife. So how could I commit this great badness and actually sin against God?”"
Yet, these sexual advances continue and eventually this sex craved women corners Joseph on a day when no one is around. In the struggle that ensues Joseph escapes the clutches of the sex starved wife, but he leaves his coat in the grasp of Portipher's wife.

A women scorned is Portipher's wife, and so she puts on a fuss that Joseph tried to rape her. Needless to say, she is totally believed and as such Joseph ends up in jail as everyone trusts Portiphers wife. This is interesting, as it is the idea many feminists want society to embrace today, "believe the women at all costs." Luckily due to the story we can see that Joseph was in fact not guilty of attempted rape (not even rape, but attempted rape) and so lets hope theistic feminist SJW's learn something here.
"As soon as his master heard the words his wife spoke to him, saying: “These are the things your servant did to me,” his anger blazed. So Joseph’s master took him and gave him over to the prison, the place where the prisoners of the king were kept under arrest, and he remained there in the prison."
To be fair, I also do believe this story is put in to show that women are lesser humans, and has nothing to do with justice. If it had to do with justice, Joseph would not have landed up in jail

So what happens with Joseph in jail? Well he gets blessed by Jehovah again and ends up becoming the manager in jail.
"So the chief officer of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners in the prison, and everything that they were doing there, he was the one having it done. The chief officer of the prison was looking after absolutely nothing that was in Joseph’s care, for Jehovah was with Joseph and Jehovah made whatever he did successful."
Really it seems to me that Jehovah only blesses those he wants when he wants. Also his blessings seem rather strange, as I think wrongly interned is anything but a blessing. Now, I am no genius but this smells fishy to me.

See you next week.

Where did it all go wrong? and are we all Fucked!

The last couple weeks I have not written anything for this blog. However during this time I was not wasting away and playing Nintendo, I was in fact thinking about the big questions, like where did it all go wrong with rational thought. So, through a process of moving a little outside my normal circle (I work at a science institute, so my colleagues are mostly a rational bunch) and observing what (for lack of a better word) the others think and do, and very importantly how they deal with information and facts. With these observation I have made, I decided to point out a few of the problems we are encountering and will continue to encounter if we don't do something about it, or regrettably until someone/something sorts us out with force. Let me state here for clarity that these observations that I made are generalizations that I believe are apparent to any one that takes an honest and rational look. However, I did not go out collecting data sets. So any criticism will be greatly appreciated.

The first thing I noted is that most people will not have read as far as this. 189 words until the end of this last sentence, and most people have not even read this far! They either assumed they know what the article meant (by looking at a hastag, first sentence, or the title), or got lazy as it was not amusing and too long for the attention span of Twitter followers or Vine junkies. Don't get me wrong I love some Vines and comedic tweets. But if you think meaningful information can be corresponded in this way you are deluded for two reasons 1) its impossible to get a coherent message across in such a small time span and 2) if you think you got a good rational message across, the other fool just got his irrational message across using the exact same media, oh and he blocked your tweets as he wants no rational discussion. This lack of information intake through a thorough reading of longish texts is disconcerting as these same people with goldfish attention spans intend running the world, just look at Donald Trump and he is better than some others I see running around with their hashtags attached to their heads.

Secondly, many people do not understand the scientific method, academic literature, or even the press releases for important discoveries. This is nothing to be ashamed of as science is not easy. We have exacerbated this issue however  by breeding a culture where anyone can do anything, where its all about participation and not about winners and losers. These ideas are not realistic as this is not how the world works unless we live in a dystopian future where everyone is handicapped to function exactly the same. Is this progress, is this what these people want?

However, disregarding dystopia for a moment, what really terrifies me at present is how absolute pseudoscience bullshit gets touted as real science by many people. As these companies have either 1) a celebrity user (payed client), 2) flashy movies with a mention of published studies (which either don't exist, or show exactly the opposite of the claim) and 3) pitches that are based in science but then make a fanciful transition (i.e. do some magic) to sell a junk apparatus or treatment.

Lastly, and probably most obvious, bad ideas exist! For example, I recently got told that black people are incapable of being racists. Let that sink in.....yes, it actually is that fucking stupid, what was been said is this, a race is not capable of being racist. But the real bad ideas are truly dangerous and wasteful. For example I recently found out that a university close by to our institute has  a creation research center. Seriously WTF! This crap is wasteful as all they need to do is prove God, and then no other research is necessary. Yet, here is a pseudoscience "institute" operating under the guise of science because some Christians think its good idea to waste resources that could be going to something far more meaningful.

This observations lead me to come to the most obvious conclusion that we are truly fucked. There is no better way to say it! Until we can make campuses places where social justice bullshit does not define curriculum's, but rather everything has to be logic based. We need to be able to look at men and women and realize their are inherent advantages for both sexes and this means the playing field will be even although it may not feel that way, for example we cannot want a even playing field in some parts (doctors salary equal to a 7/11 employee salary) and not others (sport not gender-based sport) as this is not reality. We need to able to realize race is just a skin tone, and rather focus on the problems behind some of these hastags. For example, we need to understand why black people in the USA are more violent statistically (see this link, but also realize that black are only 13.23 % of the US population, so these values given have no been normalized i.e. it looks a lot worse but realistic) and then sort out that problem and not complain about inequality, or blame it on old white men.

I realize that their is a lot of information here and its not easy to digest. In fact if I wanted I could stretch this out over multiple posts. But I don't want to as I think this format shows the crazy that rationalists encounter. As such let me end off with a little heart to heart.

Probably the worst insult I give to people now actually has a lot of hope in it, after all "you cannot seriously be that dumb." I honestly cannot believe these people are at that level of stupidity not to be able to use rational thought, there is something stopping their logic and it is something which has been incubated in this toxic, 160 character 5 second memory span everyone is a winner, environment. Can these people be helped? They can help themselves, but they are the only ones who can, after all real knowledge takes time and that is something they seem to not want to give, well unless its for Poke-mon-go.

Reading the Koran - Sura 3 Verses 21 -30

Todays reading of the Koran deals largely with Allah's opinions of the Jews and judgment day and what that means for the Jews. The first verse identifies that we are talking about the Jews as it reference's the prophets that the Jews killed during biblical times.
"Those who defy Allah’s signs and kill the prophets unjustly, and kill those who call for justice from among the people, inform them of a painful punishment."
This list of prophets killed by the Jews does not arise in the Bible, and one has to go into various other Jewish texts to gather information. However, there is one special prophet that I am sure is not considered by Jewish historians, and that is Jesus Christ himself whom is considered a prophet in Islam. So what will happen to the Jews and non-believers in general? By know we know the answer, and that is burn in hell. Interestingly enough, it shows that Allah does not car about people burning in hell for eternity, as he will not offer any help to the burn victims. So this is exactly what one would expect from a peaceful god (all sarcasm intended).
"They are the ones whose works have failed in this world and the Hereafter, and they will have no helpers."

The crux of why Muslims hate Jews is rather stupid really,
"Have you not regarded those who were given a share of the Book, who are summoned to the Book of Allah in order that it may judge between them, whereat a part of them refuse to comply and they are disregardful?"
Basically, just because Jews refuse to accept the Koran as holy they are apparently being disrespectful towards Allah. The central thought is that the Torah is not complete, and so it should make sense to just accept the Koran. Naturally this hate of Jews could be rooted in other things like territory gains in the Middle East since time immemorial, but maybe thats just too logical. Funnily enough, its also only the Jews that are singled out for not accepting the Koran which is rather amusing when one considers that most other religions reject the Koran likewise.

Building from the above verse we see that because the Jews believe in a type of purgatory (i.e. a few days burning in Hell) they will in fact burn forever. After all believing that a just and merciful god should save people from burning for eternity is apparently and absurd concept according to the Koran.
"That is because they say, ‘The Fire shall not touch us except for a number of days,’ and they have been misled in their religion by what they used to fabricate."

Verses 25-27 are basically Allah saying how awesome he is and how he controls everything and how he will eventually judge everyone.

Verse 28 is a very bizarre verse, as it tells us something about Muslims and what they think about non-believers.
"The faithful should not take the faithless for allies instead of the faithful, and whoever does that Allah will have nothing to do with him, except when you are wary of them out of caution. Allah warns you to beware of [disobeying] Him, and toward Allah is the return."
So Muslims are not allowed to be allies or even friends with non-believers. This is ridiculous as basically Muslims can never get along with non-mulsims, this really shows us that all problems have to be sorted out by Muslims themselves.

Now should I be reading the Koran? After all I cannot ever contribute anything meaningful to the conversation. But apparently moderate Islam exists?

Reading the Bible - Genesis 38

Genesis 38 or chapter WTF? Seriously I would suggest you read Genesis 38 just for the WTF moments. For this reason I will divide this post into four WTF moments, and all of these moments have to do with Judah, the patriarch to the tribe that Jesus eventually came from.

WTF 1
Judah has married a Canaanite women called Shua, and she gives birth to three children called Er, Onan, and Shelah. Eventually, once Er had grown up, Judah organized a bride for him called Tamar and the got married. Anyway, for some reason Jehovah did not like Er and he killed him. Seriously WTF? No reason, just killed.

WTF 2
Onan now gets told by Judah to marry Tamar and perform brotherly duties with her, i.e. have sex and look after her and the kids.  I should note here that this law, which we will see in in Deuteronomy 25:5-6, which states that a brother must marry and impregnate his dead brothers wife does not exist. So in essence Judah was just making shit up.

Anyway, Onan does not want to look after children which are not his. As such when he is having sex with Tamar he employs that contraceptive method of withdrawal and waters the ground with his sperm. This spilling of sperm angers Jehovah and so he decides its time for Onan to die as well and Jehovah kills him. Now this verse has been used by some Christians to prohibit masturbation, but to be clear this is not about masturbation this is about God being angry about a guy that does not want to impregnate whomever he gets forced to have sex with. Seriously WTF!

WTF 3
After two dead husbands Tamar is sent away to go with her father until his youngest son Shelah becomes of age. Unfortunately, during this time Judah forgets about Tamar and his promise of marriage to Shelah. It is also during this time that Judah's wife dies. So, what is a new widower to do? Like any single guy Judah embarks on a journey to hire some prostitutes, and needless to say he ends up having sex with Tamar who is dressed as a prostitute. If you are wondering why Tamar is dressing like a prostitute, well the answer is simple, it is she can deceive her father in law and enjoy the good times. Yes, that is a WTF.

At this time Judah even tries to get some free sex, but Tamar is having none of that and gets some security in the form of Judah's seal ring, cord and rod. So clearly Judah was bloody horny as he gave his seal ring away to a prostitute, guess men can learn something from this?

WTF 4
The security that Judah gave Tamar was meant to be given back to Judah once a goat was sent as payment. However, Judah never got the security back as Tamar was not a prostitute......uhm no she was, but the Bible needs her not to be for the story to work. Anyway, Tamar gets pregnant from her night of passion with Judah, and on hearing this Judah says should be burned to death. Again this burning references a law that does not yet exist i.e. Leveticus 21:9, so Judah is again making shit up.

On hearing that she must die, Tamar sends the security to Judah so that he can decide if she should die. At this point realizing what he has done (apparently sex is not naked in those days?) Judah declares Tamar righteous and she is not killed. Eventually Tamar gives birth to twins by Judah.

.....

Four moments, that should make you wonder about many things. The one thing that astounds me is the use of rules that have not yet been written down. If this is the case then clearly the Mosaic laws are based on past actions, and not given by Jehovah as claimed. Also, go get some prostitutes, as Jehovah very clearly approves.

Thats that for the week

Religion molded society in a good way

I am of the opinion that religion has played a positive role in society. As such an assertion that religion is good for society is a truth that is valid, even though it may not necessarily be valid at this point in time. This is important, as if religion has played a positive role then perhaps it should still be part of society still today regardless of the god claims on which it is based.

(Source)

To analyze this point further and in an honest way, I think the bigger question is whether religion has, for the last 100 years (or more), been playing a positive or negative role in society? The way I would analyze this question is to look at statistical analysis and what most people consider human rights, and then see how religions infringe on basic human rights. Now anyone that has looked at statistics, or follows my blog, will know that there is no uncertainty in my mind that religion is anything but a positive influence on society. However, regardless of my opinion we can still consider that religion may still be a force for good in society based on its past positive influence. Necessarily this implies that any act or belief that has molded society in a positive way should likewise be adapted in modern day society.

Now this brief analysis I have given above may be a bit hard to accept, or perhaps you don't agree with my analysis, but I think the next example can give more clarity into why I think we can continue this thought. Very recent analysis strongly suggests (proves?) that societies with human sacrifice have allowed our societies to develop in they way they have today.
"Unpalatable as it might be, our results suggest that ritual killing helped humans transition from the small egalitarian groups of our ancestors, to the large stratified societies we live in today."
Now perhaps it can be argued that egalitarian groups are better than large stratified societies, but this negates the reality we live in and as such invalidates any argument coming from that angle. This is particularly true when we consider that religion probably only started to arise when groups of people started to live in groups where they likewise effected the social structure, i.e. not egalitarian.

So here is the conundrum, if you are of the opinion that religion is good for modern society, then by default you have to embrace the idea that human sacrifice is likewise good for modern society.

Reading The Koran - Sura 3 Verse 10-20

Now just in case you have not noticed before, the Koran shows us in verses 10-12 what the punishment for not believing in Allah as the one and only true god is.
"As for the faithless, neither their wealth nor their children shall avail them anything against Allah; it is they who will be fuel for the Fire "
"Say to the faithless, ‘You shall be overcome and mustered toward hell, and it is an evil resting place.’"
In fact there is even a vague reference to the Biblical story of the Pharaohs who did not believe in Yahweh and subsequently suffered at Allah's hand. Remember Allah is Yahweh and Jehovah and any other name that is afforded to God in Christianity or Judaism.
"as in the case of Pharaoh’s clan and those who were before them, who denied Our signs. So Allah seized them for their sins, and Allah is severe in retribution."
So, yes blah balh blah, fire, blah blah blah, die die die, blah blah blah......

Verse 13 is a mystery unto itself as it is meant to refer to a verse in Isiah which shows a prophecy being fulfilled. Now before the reveal of the prophecy let me put the two verses together so you can see how this relates to prophecy.
"There was certainly a sign for you in the two hosts that met: one host fighting in the way of Allah and the other faithless, who saw them visibly twice as many. Allah strengthens with His help whomever He wishes. There is indeed a moral in that for those who have insight."
Isaiah 21:13-17
"A pronouncement against the desert plain: In the forest in the desert plain you will spend the night, O caravans of Deʹdan. Bring water to meet the thirsty one, You inhabitants of the land of Teʹma, And bring bread for the one fleeing. For they have fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, From the bent bow, and from the cruelty of the war.
For this is what Jehovah said to me: “Within one year, like the years of a hired worker, all the glory of Keʹdar will come to an end. The remaining bowmen of the warriors of Keʹdar will be few, for Jehovah the God of Israel has spoken.”"
So this verse, according to Koran experts is meant to reflect Isaiah's account and is meant to be about the Battle of Badr. Unfortunately, this battle of Badr happened a good 1700 years after Isiah predicted it would happen. Now it can be correctly argued that the Kedar were defeated a long time (about 800 years) after that prophecy by Isiah, but this does not make the Koran correct. All this shows is that both the Koran and the Bible are incorrect in their supposed accuracy. Wow, two holy books with one stone, that must be a record.

The remaining 7 verse of the Koran study today just reiterate that we should only serve Allah and not world possessions or other gods, after all its not only us that praise Allah but also the angels.
"Allah bears witness that there is no god except Him —and [so do] the angels and those who possess knowledge— maintainer of justice, there is no god but Him, the Almighty, the All-wise."
As you can see in this quoted verse we can also be sure that only Allah should be praised because, well Allah tells us that we should.

Lastly, what do we get if we praise Allah?
"Say, ‘Shall I inform you of something better than that? For those who are Godwary there will be gardens near their Lord, with streams running in them, to remain in them [forever], and chaste mates, and Allah’s pleasure.’ And Allah sees best the servants."
You get to live in a paradise near Allah, with plenty virgins and flowing water for eternity. Apparently, the fact that you will need an eternity of virgins to satisfy an eternity in heaven does not seem to be a problem for Allah, even though it should. Consider this, where are these eternity of virgins coming from? Either the existed before, or they are yet to exist. But there are already people that have died who should be partaking of the eternity of virgins. Now the virgins cannot exist and not-exist at the same time, and so we come to the logical conclusions that the virgins in paradise as promised by Islam is a nail in the coffin indicating its sheer stupidity.

Thats all for now see you next time.
